I have worked with many different executive search firms (local and international) over the past two decades both as their client and also the approached candidate. When it came to finding candidates, David gathered an exceptional pool through not only the open advertising but through his extensive contacts and network. David drew in a wealth of talent and the panel was armed with plenty of information to make the difficult decision of who to shortlist. David is empathetic, approachable and highly knowledgeable, a rare and impressive combination! David takes time to understand the needs of clients and prospective candidates to effectively match skills, aspirations and potential to the role. By understanding the needs of all parties, he helps clients to think differently when going through the recruiting process, not seeking ‘like for like’ replacements but matching candidates to the needs of the organisation for the future. By collaborating with candidates, he helps them to explain, succinctly, their relevant experience to the context of the new employers. As such the ‘interview’ process is a more engaging and productive conversation where both sides can explore the ‘fit.’ He provides honest feedback throughout the process and asks probing questions to get to the heart of an issue, contextualizing as he goes to make sure his understanding, and therefore the employer’s, is good. This means time and effort is not wasted, candidates feel engaged and valued and that their needs, aspirations and drivers are met.
It is very, very rare that I offer an endorsement. But I will be honest that David, in response to some very detailed asks, produced focused, relevant, achievable recommendations. It was a delight not just to be given the usual stable of individuals, but to have some real thought behind what I wanted.
